We, the undersigned students and graduates of the Bachelor's degree in Game Design and Visual Effects at the Academy of Performing Arts, hereby appeal to the management of the Film Faculty and the management of the Academy of Performing Arts, requesting a reconsideration of the decision that set the maximum number of students admitted to the Master's degree in Game Design at five (5) people.
Currently, fourteen (14) students are studying in the 3rd year of the Game Design program. The set limit of five (5) students admitted to the Master's degree means that more than half (64%) of them will lose the opportunity to continue their studies regardless of interest, individual abilities, progress, the needs of the existing industry, and the opinion of all Game Design educators.
We believe that the decision on the admission of students to the next level of study should be made by professional teachers and leaders of AVFXHD, who have been following our work for a long time, know our abilities and can professionally assess the readiness of individual students to continue their studies. In our opinion, a fixed number of admitted students does not allow for a fair and professional assessment of the quality of applicants.
When analyzing the prospectuses of individual study plans at the FTF, differences appear in the setting of quotas for individual studios, which opens up space for discussion about unifying these criteria.
Therefore, we request that admission to the master's degree program not be limited by a fixed number of places, but that the decision on the number of students admitted remain within the competence of game design educators based on the need for quality, the completed bachelor's project, and the abilities of individual applicants.
Our goal is not to circumvent the admissions process or reduce its difficulty, but to ensure that decision-making is professional and fair.
We believe that our position will be heard and the decision will be reconsidered in favor of the constructive advancement of education at FTF and the further development of Game Design in Slovakia.
The petition was signed by 29 Game Design students, 10 Visual Effects students, and 9 HD and VFX educators.
